Singaporeans understand this well, so in 1994, the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board launched the Great Singapore Sale (GSS) to boost local tourism and retail sales.
Organised by the Singapore Retailers Association (SRA) in partnership with Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the GSS is a massive event that visitors look forward to every year. It provides some of the best shopping deals in the Orchard Road. It also features irresistible bargains from shops in Paya Lebar, Pasir Ris, Tampines and Bedok.
The sale season includes hundreds of participating brands in different shopping centres. These brands welcome visitors with 50% discounts and ‘buy one, get a second item at 50% off’ promos.
Fashion brands are not the only ones that participate in the annual sale, though. Other offerings include local hotel accommodations, spa treatments and dining offerings.
With the rise of e-commerce, consumers are used to having a breadth of options to pay for purchases. Convenient transactions are also an important factor for visiting shoppers. UnionPay International, the official card partner of GSS, makes shopping more convenient with cashless transactions in local stores such as Pedro’s and Benjamin Barker. It also gives shoppers access to exclusive offers from international brands such as Michael Kors and Kate Spade.
